My role: Host Team

La Reta

Challenging students to find solutions to wicked problems in our context though strategic design and social innovation.

Social Innovation, Design Thinking

La Reta is an annual challenge powered by Brodmann that aims to identify complex problems that impact directly on our surroundings, come up with ideas and solutions to these problems and generate change though Strategic Design and Social Innovation.

Every year, in summer, La Reta opens an invitation to design, business, liberal arts and engineering professionals and students to reshape our context and tackle its various complex issues. I have been a part of the organizing team for six different editions of La Reta. The first challenge we launched was to rethink the local economy of a  neighbourhood though the use of bicycles. In 2015 we dared the participants to adapt the artisanal production processes in Puebla to new realities. For the third edition of La Reta, we wanted to find ways to rebuild our connection with Rio Atoyac, the river that goes across the city. In 2017 we wondered how can we improve the lives of animals that live in the streets. La Reta 2018 was focused on constructing a sense of community from public urban spaces. And finally last year we found a variety of way of creating a smart city from the neighbourhoods up.
